As we enter 2026, many of us will establish new resolutions, set new goals, seek new challenges, so forth and so on and I’m sure we’ve all heard the phrase, “New Year, New Me” but is that really accurate in the literal sense? Maybe, but for most, that’s not the case.
Personally, I am not a fan of New Year’s resolutions and I typically don’t create them. I will however identify new goals for the year. Life has taught me that I have the chance to reset every day and I believe that every new day presents an opportunity to begin again; that’s just me. New Year (Day), Same Me, Different Perspective, lol.
As you reflect, not dwell on 2025 and all that it did or didn’t do for you, how can you be intentional with each day in 2026? Have you thought about the goals that you want to achieve? On a scale of 1-10, how serious are you about actually achieving said goal(s)?
I’ll share with you what I shared with my 21-year old children today. “At this very moment, all of your needs are met; water, food, shelter & clothing” anything else is a want/bonus. This doesn’t mean that those needs are the end all, be all but what it means for them is they could save money over the next 3-6 months to build an emergency savings – just stacking their money and maybe you can too.
This will likely mean something different for you but only you know what that is. If you think about the last 6 months, how much money could you have applied to savings and/or investing? How well did you manage the funds you applied to holiday shopping? Did you stay within budget or did you splurge? How well did you manage your mental space? So much that can be reflected upon, so much than can be just a little bit better, so what will it be for you?
I challenge each of you to take a few days and think about 1 or 2 things you can do to make small changes in your daily routine.
- Give up dairy creamer for a tasty non-dairy alternative.
- Decrease fast foods, instead of 3 times a week, maybe only once a week.
- Gym for 20 minutes this week, then 30 minutes next week.
No matter what, I encourage each and every one of you to truly make each day better than the day before and by this time next year, your 2026 will have outshined your 2025 — making 2026 YOUR YEAR.
Yes, it’s a New Year, you are still you BUT only you have the power to enhance your perspective and making changes that affect you.
Your Perspective is Yours – Own It!
